Uses

Rehydrate with water for a few minutes, then heat and serve. Because it is fully cooked, it is ideal for camping, backpacking, emergency food storage, or quick meals at home. It can also be eaten straight from the pack as a crunchy, high-protein snack.

Rehydration and Yield

  • Each ounce of freeze-dried cooked ground veal rehydrates to approximately 6 ounces of freshly cooked ground veal.
  • After cooking, draining, and freeze drying, the fresh weight is reduced by roughly 90%; the 7.0-ounce package yields the equivalent of about 42 ounces (just over 2-1/2 pounds) of cooked ground veal when rehydrated.

Storage and Shelf Life

  • Unopened: shelf life is up to 10 years when stored in the original sealed packaging and kept out of direct sunlight.
  • After opening: reseal the pouch and keep the oxygen absorber and desiccant; remaining portions are best used within about 3 months under typical conditions (can last longer with additional sealing techniques).
